5 out of 5 stars d-Mannose works but there is a learning curve   January 3, 2010

I never had urinary tract infections until I became a diabetic. The first time I got one I ended up in the ER with extreme pain from a distended bladder. Doctors put me on antibiotics and I'd be ok for a while, even months but this is a problem that progresses. Now I have UTI pretty much all the time and the antibiotics stopped working. I've heard that if I lived on a lower glycemic diet, the UTI would go away but for now I've discovered d-mannose from the writings of Jonathan Wright MD of Tacoma Clinic.
D-mannose power is d-mannose powder so there isn't a lot of difference between one brand or another. I like this particular brand because when I called their customer service to ask a question about doseage they gave me a very thorough and easily understood answer - not the first time I called, but the 2nd time when someone who had more technical knowledge got back to me. I also like their purple scoop. Other products don't have scoops at all or have clear plastic scoops that are very difficult to find in the tub.
The trick with d-mannose is that you have to know how much you're taking and start by taking plenty, then gradually taper off until you have a maintenance dose. A mantenance dose isn't necessary for everyone but for those of us who have reoccuring episodes it's vital. Read up on how much you should take and do it as recommended. I got good info from [...] - a product under d-mannose that is meant to get you started and contains only enough for 4 days. After that you can use powder or capsules. Powder is less expensive but capsule contain exact amounts of d-mannose with fillers. Right now and until I know what my maintenance dose is, I'm using capsules because I want exactness.
This is a good product. Even after stirring it may settle at the bottom of your glass so give it a little time to disolve. I put it in water so that I can see when it's fully disolved. Room temp water works better than cold water.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Product For A UTI or Interstitial Cystitis   June 11, 2009

I've been using this product for years. I have interstitial cystitis (inflammation of the bladder) and when I get a flare or a UTI this product is the only thing that has ever worked for me. I've had UTI's that would not go away with antibiotics but mannomax always worked. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Recommend For People and Pets   November 18, 2009

I suffered an accute pulmonary reaction to Macrobid taken for UTI and now Septra is causing stomach upset when I try to take it. I wanted something with fewer side effects and D-mannose seems to be the answer. I was feeling better within about a day of starting it and am continuing to do well with maintenace dosage.

Also, I have an elderly dog - a 5 lb. Miniature Pinscher that doesn't get around as well at the age of nearly 14 yrs. She suffers from UTIs so I decided to try this product on her and she seems to be feeling better and has better bladder control now.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product to anyone (or their pets) who wants to avoid the problems associated with antibiotics.

My family member has reoccuring UTIs caused by the psedomona bacteria. Hospital stays where a foley is used to make staff jobs easier has made the problem so bad I wondered if the problem would kill my family member. I searched the internet and found d-mannose. I almost didn't buy the d-mannose because the literature says the E-coli bacteria is the bacteria it fights against in the blatter. I decided to try it, why not, the antibiotics worked until they were stopped and the infection was back with a vengence. My family member has been on this a week tomorrow when we ended his course of antibiotics the same day we started this, his urine is almost clear and seems to be getting clearer each day. Usually he would have been in the middle of a horrible reoccurance of another UTI, but he is not, this is not to say it won't happen, but it hasn't so far. This is the psedomona bacteria we are fighting, it seems like it is working against it too!! If you are desperately fighting what looks like a loosing battle against reoccurring UTIs you have nothing to loose to give this a try, don't cheat yourself, it just may work. Oh, ya, my family member is a senior citizen, d-mannose is easy on the older people's system, another plus!! I will up date as we travel this road. For once, I have some hope for my loved one in this fight against reoccurring UTIs, it is nice to see him become more himself since he isn't so sick. Update, it has been a while now, my family member's urine is not perfectly clear, but he does not have a UTI, yet!! I guess his urine will not be perfectly clear, that's ok, at least he isn't sick. Homecare nurse is amazed, they just took blood to test his blood sugar, since d-mannose is a simple sugar, I think they think his blood sugar may rise. My family member is doing amazingly great, I have him back, how wonderful (now what to do when he goes to the hospital again and we come face to face with the dreaded foley!!)

As a frequent suffer of UTI's-who is also allergic to many antibiotics- I was so grateful to find this product. It is easy to use-it even has a hand little purple scoop inside-and works extremely well. It will clear up a UTI in less than three days. The instructions are easy to follow and the product has a very plesant taste. I would highly recommend this product.
